Request Your Credit Reports

Effective September 1, 2005, Pennsylvania residents may request a free credit report, annually, from the three major Credit Bureaus. The nationwide consumer credit reporting companies are Equifax, Experian and TransUnion.
By just going to one web site, you can get all three reports - FREE!
But before getting too anxious, here are a few tips to assist you in preparing.

1. Be prepared to spend about 1/2 hour, if you plan to print all three reports.

2. Have plenty of paper loaded in your printer, possibly 100 sheets. You undoubtedly will want to print the reports

3. Have new or plenty of ink in your printer cartridges - color and black. You would not want to run out.

4.Be aware you may not be permitted to return again to review or print out your reports, so plan on printing all the information as soon as it is available to you. TransUnion does allow you to log back into their site and review your report for 30 days.

5. Have a user ID and Password selected that you would like to use. You will be asked for that information.

6. Have an account number from one of your credit accounts, such as your mortgage, as an example. This will be requested for security purposes.

7. Know your approximate monthly payment amounts, if you have any outstanding credit. You may be asked for a couple. This is for security purposes.

8. You will be asked a few other questions that you will easily be able to answer. This is for security purposes.

9. In addition to obtaining your FREE credit reports, there is other information that you may want to request for a minimal charge, and your credit score will cost between $5.95 and $7.95 depending on the credit bureau. So, if you think you may purchase this additional information, you may want to have a credit card handy.

10. Last but not Least. In order to better guard against identity theft and erroneous information, you may want to request your reports from the three credit credit bureaus at different times during the year, rather than all three at the same period of time.

Example:
TransUnion - September
Experian - January
Equifax - May
