Important Tax Deadlines

f death and taxes are a certainty, then here are some dates that are also a certainty. You may want to keep these in mind.

US Individual Tax Return for Tax Year 2010 is due Friday, April 15th, 2011.

PA Individual Earned Income Tax Return is due Friday, April 15th, 2011.

Allegheny County Property Assessment Appeals deadline is March 31, 2010. Get 2010 Instructions and 2010 Form.  The 2011 information is not yet available.

Allegheny County Property Tax - 2% discount by March 31st. Face amount by April 29th.
Afterwards, a 5% Penalty and 10% interest for each month of delinquency.

Jefferson Hills Property Tax - 2% discount by August 31st. Face amount by October 31st.
Afterwards, a 10% Penalty

West Jefferson Hills School Property Tax - 2% discount by August 31st. Face amount by October 31st. Afterwards, a 10% Penalty

Traditional and Roth IRA Contribution for 2010 Federal tax deduction by April 15th. Contribution limit for 2010 is $5,000.00, age 49 and below, and $6000.00, age 50 and above. Each spouse may contribute these amounts as long as combined contributions equals or exceeds total compensation

Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), if you attained age 70 1/2 in the calendar year of 2010. You must begin taking the minimum distribution from your retirement plan, which includes, Traditional IRA, Simple or Sep-IRAs, 410K, 403(b) and Keogh plans by April 1, 2011. If you delayed your first distribution from 2010, you must take your 2010 distribution by April 1, 2011 and your 2011 distribution before December 31, 2011. Thereafter, each RMD must be taken before December 31st.

IRA Contribution or Roth IRA Conversion Recharacterization for the 2010 tax year must be made by October 15, 2011. If you contributed more to your IRA than allowed by the IRS for 2010, you have until October 15, 2011 to remove excess contributions without incurring the standard 6% penalty. However, earnings generated by excess contributions after April 15 are subject to taxes and a possible premature withdrawal penalty of 10%.
