Instructions:
All
garbage/refuse should be placed at curbside, no earlier
than 5:00 PM on the day proceeding the day of pickup Except
for holiday weeks, collection is on the same day
Tuesday year-round.
Items
should be placed within five feet of the curb. No building
materials (i.e. wood, concrete, dirt, stone, etc.) will
be collected. Tree pruning branches should be tied and
bundled in three-foot lengths. Also, discarded carpeting
should be rolled and tied. Refrigerators, freezers and
air conditioners placed for collection must have had the
refrigerant removed and a recovery sticker attached in
accordance with Federal Law. Doors must be removed. For
any unusual items or items in question, please call 18008664460 the day before. Unusual items
may be collected, if notification is give in advance and
if instructions are followed.
New
Years Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving
and Christmas are observed by the Boroughs contractor
as holidays. If one of these holidays fall on Monday or Tuesday, residents will have their materials
collected Wednesday.
In
order to avoid an increase in taxes, the Borough Council
was obligated to impose a user fee of $40.00 per quarter.
A discount of 50% or $20.00 per quarter is available to senior
citizens that meet the Pennsylvania PACE Program income
requirements. Contact the Borough Administration Office
for details.
State
Laws now prohibit the collection and disposal in landfills
of grass clippings and leaves. The Borough has a leaf
collection program. On three dates in the fall, leaves
are collected; the exact dates are announced in the Borough
Newsletter.
Recyclables Collection- 2011
Instructions:
The
Borough of Jefferson Hills operates a Recycling Program
with twice-monthly pickup on your regular garbage collection
day.
Items to be recycled are clear and all colored glass,
aluminum and bimetal cans and plastics bearing symbols
PETE and HDPE, 1 and 2. Bottles and jugs are collected.
The items to be recycled must be placed in the brown recycling
container supplied by the Borough. The borough is also
once again recycling newspaper. Recycle all paper that
comes with the daily and Sunday editions including inserts.
Do not recycle junk mail or telephone books. Place in
a brown paper bag (no plastic bags) or under the brown
recycling container.
Extra
recyclables may be placed in a rigid plastic or metal
container, which bears a sticker that identifies it as
recyclables. The stickers are free and available at the
Borough Office. The Borough has also established a drop
off center located on the lower level parking lot at the
Municipal Center, 925 Old Clairton Road.
The
brown recycling bin remains the property of the Borough.
In the event a property owner moves, the recycling container
must be returned to the Municipal Center in a clean, reusable
condition or a form completed transferring ownership to
the Buyer. If the above is not done, the Seller of the
property is assessed a non refundable fee of ten ($10.00)
dollars.
